Hard cover, 8vo, in decorated blue cloth blocked in green with titles in gilt to front boards and spine in an original arts and crafts-inspired design by the American book cover artist MARGARET ARMSTRONG (1867-1944). Several layers form an ellipse-shaped wreath of woven yew twigs, perhaps, with their delicate woody seed pods splayed outward, latticed in gilt upon the green ground and extending outward into the blue cloth. The seed pod design is reinterpreted on the spine in reverse printed gilt surrounding the title in this attractive and original design. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. 295pp. First edition. Printed by D.B. Updike, The Merrymount Press, Boston. Eight color illustrations by the American artist W. Appleton Clarke. CONDITION: Very Good Plus. Very faint rubbing at front joint and seen to head and foot of spine. Gilt remains bright. Text pages lightly tanned. Lightly cocked.
