Stated "Fifteenth Edition," believed to be the15th printing of the First Edition (which had 22 printings in its first year of publication, 1846 (release date 20 December, 1845). Hard cover, 16mo, in a stamp-signed fine binding by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, London, of full green calf, double ruled along front and rear boards with small corner rosette, the spine with five raised bands, onlaid title labels in red morocco, the bands and compartments richly gilt. Board edges ruled in gilt, shilling marks to head and tail of spine, a.e.g., 174pp. Complete with tissue guarded frontispiece illustration and illustrated title page for 14 illustrations called for. No advertising present. Nicely detailed gilt turn-ins and marbled end papers. CONDITION: Very Good Plus. Binding is in Near Fine condition showing merest hint of rubbing to tail of spine and a few gentle marks. Hinges and joints in order. Inside, condition is Very Good Plus , with some light foxing to prelims. Moderate age-toning. A small manufacturing irregularity? with rear marbled endpaper. Neither written in nor inscribed. Presumed original small bookseller label on verso endpaper at gutter. Overall a charming, attractive and soundly bound item.** First published Dec. 1845, and part of a five book Christmas book series by Dickens. The story, a warm-hearted domestic comedy, features a case of hidden identity bringing humorous complications to the marriage plans and domestic tranquility of a married couple, John and Dot Peerybingle, and their neighbors, the Plummers.
