But now in a new mylar protector. **Henry Miller travelled to Greece from Paris in 1939 , staying with his friend, fellow ex-pat and literary admirer Lawrence Durrell, recently after publication of his "Tropic of Cancer" in Paris the same year. This is a sort of literary travel diary of the trip, in which Miller reflects on the people and places he goes, makes observations on his reading, and thinks about some of the authors who have travelled the road before him. (Byron, for one). From Shakespeare to Nijinsky, the Greek philosophers to contemporary writers and thinkers George Katsimbalis and poet Giorgos Seferis, Miller's observations provide an interesting interior view of the mind of one of the twentieth century's most unique Modernist writers and his influences. There are also some rough drafts of passages which appear in a rewritten form in the final published version of "The Colossus of Marousi." [See our related listing 9494.]
