Of this experience she said: " I loved it more than any year of my life. Being away from home gave me a chance to look at myself with a jaundiced eye. I learned not to be ashamed of a real hunger for knowledge, something I had always tried to hide, and I came home glad to start in here again but with a love for Europe that I am afraid will never leave me." She would later graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French Literature from George Washington University in 1951. During the Presidency of John F. Kennedy, she was a fashion and general media sensation accompanying her husband on the first official state visit to France in 1961. She also later famously lived in the 16th arrondissement with second husband, Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis from 1968 to 1975. REFS: Bnf ark:/12148/bpt6k3391878t. John F.
