Hard cover 4to, in cream colored quarter linen over grey paper-covered boards blocked in gold with art deco cover design featuring five possibly iris-like flowers with long descending stems terminating in abstract leaves and surmounted by a butterfly shaped shield with the illustrated title design, initialed by the artist Katherine Cameron within the design lower right front. Spine in gold repeating title and single flower design as on front board. xi, 81pp., with unnumbered plate and labelled guard pages. Frontispiece " Roses of Morning" and additional 23 chromolithographed plates are tipped in. Printed in Great Britain upon thick cream art stock. Poems include selections from Shakespeare, Burns, Christina Rossetti, the Romantic Poets, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Robert Frost and many more. CONDITION: Very Good. Some spots of soiling to boards and spine. Ghost of a an old ballpoint signature to front cover on right side, barely seen. Moderate wear at corners. The cloth at spine is delicate, yet intact. Hinges in order. Brown offset to ffep. and rep. The odd singular spot of foxing. The lovely floral watercolor reproductions of the Glasgow, Scotland ARTIST Katherine Cameron (1874-1965) , RWS, RE make this gift book sing. Cameron attended the Glasgow School of Art from 1889-1893, and was associated with some fellow women artists there at the time, including Jessie M. King, Frances and Margaret Macdonald and others, as part of the group called the "Glasgow Girls." As a group these artists developed a unique Glasgow art nouveau style. She had a long and successful career as a children's book illustrator, notably for this London publisher, T.C. and E.C. Jack, and also designed the book cover. E. Ewan et al, New Biographical Dictionary of Scottish Women (Edinburgh Univ. Press, 2018). A scarce title of the artist's work.
