Bookmark intact.**The "Belle of Amherst", Massachusetts poet EMILY DICKINSON, (1830-1886) was influenced by the transcendentalists, and her work is well known for its close attention to nature, independent thought and introspective tenor. She published little during her lifetime, and the three "series" of these poems represent the first public dissemination of the vast majority of her work. **This second printing has the six errata text corrections specified by Meyerson, (the only changes from the first printing). The decorative artwork to the covers was apparently from a painting done by Mabel Loomis Todd, one of the literary editors with a romantic connection to the poet's brother, Austin. The other editor, Thomas W. Higginson, had corresponded with Dickinson during her lifetime, offering literary encouragement. Higginson had a Newburyport connection, being employed early in his pastoral career as minister of that city's Unitarian Church. His increasing involvement in the politics of abolition and women's suffrage would eventually, however, see him relocate to Boston. BAL 4656. Meyerson (1984) A.2.1b, p. 26.
