Printed, on laid paper, at University Press by Robert Maclehose and Co., Ltd., Glasgow. **CONDITION: Very Good Plus. Lacks d/j. Light soiling and rubbing to exterior applied title label, however, the cloth is clean and remains bright. Corners are sharp. There is some light darkening to the spine, and a faint sunline to rear board, as seen. Inside, hinges are in order, end papers are browned. Faint toning and very minor marginal foxing to text pages, not affecting the glossy pages of illustration, which also remain brighter. Two minor cracks at gutter of p. 43 and 105. Overall, this remains a lovely illustrated book exhibiting the best of the mature style of King's art deco book illustration, done when the influential Scottish book designer and illustrator Jessie M. King ( 1875-1949) and her husband E.A. Taylor were resident and working in Paris as of about 1910. Trained as a art student under Fra Newbery at the Glasgow School of Art around the turn of the twentieth century, Jessie M. King was recognized as a multi-talented and original artist, and would teach her skills in book design, illustration, jewelry making and fabric design, both at her alma mater and in her privately run Paris atelier and artist colony near Kirkcudbright, on Scotland's west coast.
