Tissue-guarded black and white gravures of scene's around Colinton and Edinburgh where the fabled author of works such as " Kidnapped" and " The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," was raised. CONDITION: Very Good. Lightly cocked. Boards clean with very minor wear. Foxing to several pages of prelims, clean inside. Also lightly foxed at text block edges. Old inscription ffep. dated 1913. Mostle clean and lightly toned. Hinges in order. The Author of these reminiscences, Evelyn Blantyre Simpson, (1855-1920), was the sister of a friend of Stevenson's, Walter Simpson. Their father, Prof. James Young Simpson was a specialist in obstetric medicine at the Univ. of Edinburgh, pioneering the use of choloform during childbirth, among other achievements. Eve wrote a number of books of biography and of folklore in the lowlands, helping to support her eight brothers and sisters after the early death of their parents.
