Edinburgh publisher John Blackwood would release the ten-book poem in blank verse shortly before the poet's death. He is said to have been inspired by the work of Byron, and was much admired by his Edinburgh contemporary, Prof. John Wilson. A farmer's son, who gave up furniture-making to join the church, Pollock was educated variously at the Univ. of Glasgow and Dunfermline but was considered of too feeble health to continue in that vocation. This work went into many editions being popular at the time. DNB , T.W. Bayne, "Robert Pollock," (1900).
