Reprint, circa 1911 dated by inscription. Soft cover chapbook , 16mo, in olive gray card decorative wrapper over cream card, with an applied color illustration to the front, the printed titles in green to the front and vertically to the spine of the wraps. 6d net. The cover illustration entitled "Rebuking the grey-haired sexton for having used mistletoe" is repeated as the frontispiece opposite the color printed title page. 5 illustrations by H.M. Brock, printed directly to glazed stock upon unnumbered pages. Printed by Neill and Co., Ltd., Edinburgh, 34 pp. plus 1pp. publisher's advertising for the Envelope Series: "The most attractive series of Christmas Booklets on the market to be had of all booksellers;" the list contains the first 13 of the series. **CONDITION: Very Good. Christmas inscription in old ink dated 1911. Two shallow closed tears with a fold at top edge of wraps. A quarter inch split at foot of front joint; both are very minor. Otherwise, very clean and bright. There were several of these Christmas titles, abstracted from the Author's "Sketch-book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent.", first serialized in 1820 by Washington Irving (1783-1859.) Cambridge, UK Artist Henry Matthew Brock (1875-1960) was the lesser known brother of the artist Charles Edmund Brock, and they shared an artist's studio. The illustrator of a number of books, H.M. also had a career in advertising illustration, and was also a contributor to 'Punch." Elfick and Harris No. 163.
