Limited Edition No. 75 of 250 copies. Hard cover, 8vo in publisher's navy cloth boards with an illustrated dust jacket featuring a suitable spectral figure. With full-page illustrations by Artist Paul Lowe, and Introduction by Editor Richard Dalby. COLLATION: xii ,[2],112,[6] pp. CONDITION: Fine in Fine dust jacket.** Scarce modern limited edition of an anthology of late Victorian and Edwardian ghost stories by the Hull, England-born AUTHOR "Lettice Galbraith," aka Lizzie Susan Gibson, (1859-1932), first published in 1893 under the title "New Ghost Stories". The original publication was a cheaply-bound "yellowback", designed to be sold at railway stations and the like, with the result that very few have survived. This new collection includes the first book publication of another story, "The Blue Room". Lettice Galbraith, born Lizzie Susan Gibson, was a short-story writer and novelist. She tackled social issues affecting women, such as marriage and independence. But she returned every now and then to occult matters, such as in the 1906 "psychic detective" novel, "Burnt Spices." These are very much classic Victorian ghost stories, with shrieks in the night and occult tomes in the library... large houses in the countryside and weekend parties... just watch out for the hidden panel in the bedpost... and don't forget to pack the smelling-salts!** Sarob Press is a small press which has published reprints of classic ghost and horror stories, as well as contemporary authors. This book is part of a series reprinting works by neglected, but worthy, woman ghost-story writers, the so-called "Mistresses Of The Macabre".
