Their guide and mentor Mr. Ross, accompanies them in a one-year adventure in the "Wild North Lands" of the Hudson Bay Territory of modern day Canada. Part of a two book series, the second being "Winter Adventures of Three Boys in the Great Lone Land". The group travels by boat and foot from the Old Fort to the Spider Islands, Montreal Point, Lake Winnipeg, and Sagasta-weekee. The group also travels with different hunting parties and native groups hailing from the Assiniboine, Red River, Cumberland, and Saskatchewan regions. Exposure to these different groups and environments teach the young men about everything from sailing, to hunting, fishing, and traveling. Sometimes the boys venture out into the wilds with only themselves and Mr. Ross, and have to be careful for threat of attack by bear or wolves. A page-turning adventure fraught with both merriment and peril. **Canadian AUTHOR Egerton Ryerson Young (1840 - 1909) was born in Crosby, Upper Canada, where he was raised by his step-mother. He became a teacher, but eventually grew dissatisfied with his work, leaving two years later to confront his lack of "spiritual progress." He then became a missionary to many of the natives of Rupert's Land, and wrote to showcase the beauty and value of Canada and its people. Originally he just wrote about his experience as a missionary in Canada, but eventually expanded outwards to telling more intriguing tales and wrote many fictitious adventures taking place there. Scarce title. (CJ)
