These are part of a "Christopher Morley Series" begun by publisher Doubleday Page in 1917, abstracting the humorous writings of their onetime copy-reader and publicist from various magazine publications and putting them into this compact, affordable and pleasant format. Flexible cover of full red sheepskin, 12 mo, with author's initials blocked in gold to front, and title along spine, top edge gilt, cream end papers, some with a rubricated title page, some with black and white illustration, as noted. Board edges, corners and hinges are pristine.**Pennsylvania-born Author, Christopher Morley(1890-1957), spent some of his educational years at Oxford, and upon returning to Philadelphia, was first employed as a reader and publicist as mentioned above. He would eventually edit magazines, work as a reporter in Philadelphia and finally inaugurate the Saturday Review of Literature. He was also a huge fan of Conan Doyle, and co-founded the "Baker Street Irregulars." (5 inches of shelf space required for the set.)
