Wagon-training, trapping, hunting, and general outdoorsy adventure are promised in this well-written novel. Contemporary attitudes of the time it was written may prompt discussions, but that's why we read. **Wisconsin-born Author Everett McNeil (1862-1929) released this story in 1909, one in a series of similar novels for young people focused on heroes of the West. A veteran of the Mexican-American War, he walked across country from Wisconsin to New York to engage in a literary career. In later years he was a supporter of H.P. Lovecraft.
