Their mission is to convince Kit to travel with them in search of some papers needed by the family back in New Orleans, being held by their Uncle Manuel in California. Wagon-training, trapping, hunting, and general outdoorsy adventure are promised in this well-written novel. Contemporary attitudes of the time it was written may prompt discussions, but that's why we read. **Wisconsin-born Author Everett McNeil (1862-1929) released this story in 1909, one in a series of similar novels for young people focused on heroes of the West. A veteran of the Mexican-American War, he walked across country from Wisconsin to New York to engage in a literary career. In later years he was a supporter of H.P. Lovecraft.
