A small smudge of black to shelf side of s/c.)** The story was written around 1926, and this volume was stylishly re-envisioned from Bertrand Rota's 1937 edition. Re-designed, and hand bound featuring new original original wood engravings by the Tern Press artists, printers and book binders, Nicholas and Mary Parry. The story concerns a young Englishwoman and her beau, separated by his military intelligence service, presumably in the First World War. It has the rich, poetic prose of Author Mary Webb (1881-1927), author of the novels "Precious Bane" and "Gone to Earth," but also includes a slightly spooky element which gives a good twist in the tale. The Tern Press, founded in 1977, is located not far from Mary Webb's birthplace in Shropshire. [For a copy of the Bertram Rota published limited edition, see our listing No. 8868] OCLC 83928745.
