Condition Very Good Plus, with some spotting to rear board. Small amount of sunning to boards and spine. Interior is bright, clean and square. The author Mary Ashley Townsend, (1836-1901), was originally from upstate New York, but resettled after her marriage to New Orleans, where her career as a writer began. She wrote under the penname of Xariffa, publishing humorous stories and poems in the southern and western press to some acclaim. The highlights of her career were the delivery of the opening poem to the New Orleans Exposition in 1884. She was also nominated to the Mexican literary society, the Liceo Hidalgo.
