Rose, Thomas Westmorland, Cumberland, Durham, and Northumberland, Illustrated Published by H. Fisher, & P. Jackson, London, 1832. First Edition
215 engraved black and white illustrations after paintings by Thomas Allom and George Pickering (complete). Hard cover, quarto (measuring 9 x 11 ΒΌ inches) in half calf over cloth covered boards, all edges gilt, with six raised compartments and gilt title to spine, marbled end papers, and 220pp. There are two title pages (one pictorial) ,215 engraved views.(There are 4 full-page views and 211 half-page views in total.) Thomas Allom (1804-1872), architect, artist and illustrator, was a founding member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and worked on the mid nineteenth century rebuilding of the Houses of Parliament with Sir Charles Barry. Condition: Good: Boards are scuffed at corners and edges, somewhat stained, and with a two-inch tear to the bottom hinge, re-glued. Within, there is water staining affecting the top of the illustrated title page and some few beyond. Moderate foxing mostly to margins of plates appearing in first quarter of volume. Some offsetting onto text, (which appears to be erasable.) Gilt edges are bright, binding is relatively firm, and many of the plates and text are, nonetheless, a pleasure for the viewer.
