Author Nathan Mortimer Hawkes (1843-1919) was a descendant of an early Massachusetts Bay plantation settler, Adam Hawkes, of whom he provided a genealogical study in 1888. An antiquarian, he would pen articles and books on a number of topics of local interest: biographies, witchcraft, the farms of Essex, and various other addresses given to institutions such as the Essex Institute. Condition: Very Good. Slight rubbing at corners, and head and foot of spine, browning to endpapers. Contents pleasingly bright and clean. A nice, well cared for copy.
