Soal, S.G.; Bowden, H.T The Mind Readers: Some Recent Experiments in Telepathy Published by Faber and Faber, London, 1959. First Edition
Hardcover, 8vo., in publisher's blue cloth with gilt title to spine, 291 pp. Author S.G. Soal (1890-1975) was a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics at Queen Mary College, London who became interested in the topic of telepathy following the tragic death of his brother in World War I. Fruitless visits to various mediums over a number of years finally led to a "curious, detailed precognitive experience" in the early 1920's. For the next thirty years, he lectured on, and conducted various experiments with telepathy. The subject of this current work was the 1955 investigation of the telepathic abilities of two Welsh cousins, Glyn and Ieuan Jones by Soal and his assistant H.T. Bowen. The book describes, in a chronological manner, how the testing was conducted, as well as the drama and various difficulties managing the clashing temperments of the subjects and their families. Validation of Soal's results was provided by Mr. Jack Salvin, conjurer and Chairman of the Occult Committee of Britain's Magic Circle. Includes photographs and diagrams. Condition: Good Plus. There is foxing to edges of text block (most notable to top edge,)also on the pastedowns and first several, and last several, pages. However, the book is otherwise clean, sturdy and well preserved, showing little use. Dust jacket is about Good.
