It includes a biographical timeline, bibliographical notes on the publication history of The Religio Medici, and many other details. In addition to his literary pursuits, Greenhill was a practicing physician at the Radcliffe Infirmary, and later the East Sussex Infirmary, and an early voice against diseases caused by poor sanitation practices. **Reformation era essayist Sir Thomas Browne's book "Religio Medici," first published in 1642, initially caused a stir from an unauthorized release and characterization by some as heresy. He is now recognized, however, as an important philosopher struggling with the correct balance of scripture, Church of England teaching and his own reasoning. He also thought about more esoteric matters. Also included are his "Letter To A Friend" and "Christian Morals," along with extensive notes, and index. A handsome book. (AJ) Watson 2229.
